the story

In 2016, we took our passion for quality food to a new level by constructing our very own urban farm. Located in Morrell Park, in West Baltimore, the Big Kitchen Farm aims to provide fresh, wholesome ingredients to our community, while simultaneously serving as a reminder of how interconnected we are to the natural world; from the bees producing honey next to our greenhouses, to the soil covered hands of our farmer harvesting fresh vegetables. We invite you to share our bounty and experience the true meaning of farm-to-table.

MEET OUR FARMER

Morgan started her Atwater’s journey in 2011, as a server at our Catonsville location. After working at almost every location and farmers market, she has finally found her home: The Farm.

Being the outdoorsy and adventurous individual that she is, Morgan heard her call to farming while hiking the Appalachian Trail in 2018. Shortly after, she began farming for The Farm at Sunnyside in Virginia and never looked back. She found farming to be the most fun way of combining her love of plants and people. We welcomed her in as our full-time Farm Manager in June of 2021.

Morgan grew up in Catonsville and loves being able to grow food responsibly for the community that raised her. Her biggest goal for the farm is to create a space for employees and customers to grow and learn. She is deeply committed to the principles of sustainable agriculture and empowering customers with the knowledge of where their food comes from and who grows it.  Peppers are her favorite crop to grow because they allow her to make connections with people around the world. When she picks an Aleppo pepper in Baltimore, she thinks of the farmers who originally planted these vegetables in Syria. “It’s an amazing way to connect to people.”

Tune in to our Facebook and Instagram for updates on the Big Kitchen Farm and what Morgan is planting!

THE FARM STAND

Our harvest, along with unique recipes, can be found at the farm stand at Atwater’s in Catonsville. The organic vegetables and herbs grown on our farm will elevate your homemade meals and cocktails to the next level. The difference is in the taste; the sweetness of a summer tomato, the spicy crunch of freshly harvested arugula, the flavors that can only be found in produce cultivated with care, on a sustainable farm.

The farm stand menu varies depending on our harvest - this fall season we will be featuring vegetables such as lettuce and peppers, as well as herbs like rosemary and oregano. Visit Atwater’s in Catonsville to see the weekly farm stand menu!
